Frequently asked questions
How do I contact you?
Email support@hookshotltd.co. In the app, Settings, then Help & feedback opens a message to the same address. Tell us your device, your OS version and what happened.
My mono text looks jumbled or misaligned when I paste it.
Mono output only lines up in a monospaced font, such as Terminal, a code editor or a note set to a monospaced style. Messages, email and most social apps use proportional fonts, where every character has a different width, so the rows drift apart. For those, switch the output to Braille or Blocks, whose characters keep a consistent width, or share the Image style as a picture instead.
The text wraps onto extra lines when I paste it.
Each row of the output is one line of text, so a row wider than where you paste it will wrap and break the picture. Lower the detail (fewer columns) before you copy, and go lower still for chat apps and narrow text fields. Braille packs more detail into each character, so it needs fewer columns than Mono for a similar result.
Which style should I use to share?
Image saves or shares a picture, so it looks the same everywhere. Mono, Braille and Blocks are text: use Mono for terminals and code, and Braille or Blocks when the destination might not use a monospaced font.
What does the free plan include?
A daily allowance of new images, all four output styles, the built-in character sets and the System Mono font. Pro removes the limit and adds video, the live camera, custom character sets, custom palettes, saved looks and custom fonts.
My daily conversions ran out. When do they come back?
The allowance refills on a daily schedule. The app shows when the next refill is when you hit the limit.
How do I restore my Pro purchase?
Open Settings, then Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the Apple Account that bought it.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open Settings on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On a Mac, use the App Store, then your account, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Photos, video and camera frames are converted on your device. See the privacy policy for the small amount of anonymous usage and crash data the iPhone and iPad app sends.
The camera or photo saving does not work.
Check that Image ASCII has permission under Settings, then Image ASCII (iOS) or System Settings, then Privacy and Security (Mac). The app needs camera access for the live camera, and add-only access to save to Photos.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 18 or later, and Mac running macOS 14 or later.
